Truman's Aunt Farm, Dentist, and more...........

Last Monday We started a unit study on ants/aunts. We used a book called trumans Aunt farm.

So we started by putting together our ant farm. And going outside and catching about 10-15 ants, by putting a cracker on the sidewalk and dumping them in. By evening we could see tunnels forming! On Tuesday we made fingerprint ants, and looked up info on ants and Aunts. We put some info about ants in our lapbooks as well. On Wed. it was our library day. So we had fun at the story hour and picked up a few more books on (of course) ants. On Thursday everybody had dentist appointments so we were in Rockford. Abby had some dental work to get finished up from the week before, Em. had to have a couple cavities filled, and an impacted tooth extracted. Lily who was done the week before went along to get a toy at the toystore. LOL! She now has beautiful white teeth in the front and not sign of decay any longer. Then Olivia just needed a cleaning and xrays. She did not have any cavities, so they put sealant on her teeth, and pulled a baby tooth because the permanent tooth was coming in behind it, and so by pulling the baby tooth we hope it will allow the permanent tooth to move up a bit. Then there was Jessica. She a cavity and then we found out she needed a root canal in another tooth!! A WHAT!! Well she went back in this past Tuesday the 24th, and had a filling put in and then instead of root canal I had the dentist pull the bad tooth! She has been hurting a lot ever since, but it is getting better.

Now that brings us to Wednesday again. We finished up our unit on ants by making ant hills on paper with fingerpaints. I don't have pics of them as I was in our little house and I forgot my camera. Thursday we went to the Library to the summer reading program. Discovery Center was there doing several games with the children. My little ones were a little bit disappointed because they weren't as fun as the games were lastyear........oh well. We ended our ant unit by making "ant cake".

Friday we had to get out of the house by 8:30 to take Emily to work, and get the grocery shopping done. We hit the store at about 9:15 and got our two weeks worth of groceries, and supplies. Finally we were done, and home again at 11:30. I did not get the groceries all put away until 1pm. WHEW!!! Was that a workout!

Then at 3 we had to pick Emily up at work. We walked around the library a few minutes and picked up some books on tape for the little ones to listen to. Tonight we will enjoy a nice hot pizza and a couple videos. Mouse Hunt and Finding Nemo. This concludes our week. I hope yours was great!

Until next time.

Our Week

On Monday we went grocery shopping. We normally buy enough for two weeks, and this was no different. It took us 90 minutes. Took about that long to get it all put away as well!!

Tuesday, was a low key day. We stayed home and had fun here.

Wednesday was library day and we went in the afternoon. We arrived a little early and then the girls went to the story hour where they made a father's day gift. After the library we went next door to the ice cream shop. We all had ice cream! YUM!!

Thursday Em, Abby and Lily had dentist appointments. Our appointment was for 1030 we got there right on time. We had to wait almost two hours to get in to see the dentist. They all had their teeth cleaned, and Abby had 5 cavities! Lily had 6 and Emily had 1!! I have never had any of the children have cavities before so this was all new to me. Anyway they did lily's teeth first, and was she ever a brave girl! So now she is totally done (until next year) and then abby got in the chair and they cleaned hers and did the left side. Emmy got her teeth cleaned but we ran out of time so she got bumped up to this coming Thurs. for her dental work. Abby will get the other side done then too. This next thursday Jess, and Olivia will be seen by the dentist, and any work that needs doing will get done then and the dentist will finish up on Abby. Emily has just one cavity, and she has a tooth that is in her gums that never grew out, but it did break through the skin so all the dentist has to do is take it out. I didn't tell abby this but she has a baby tooth with a cavity that is very loose and I think the dentist said she might pull it!

Anyway we got out of the dentist office at 230. We left the house here at 945! So needless to say we all were very hungry and thirsty. I called Steve to inform him I would not be home in time to make anything for supper so we would have to have take out. He opted for Wendy's! I didn't care I just didn't want to cook!

Friday was a low key day as well, which was kind of nice. Saturday we went to Staples for several items for a unit study we are starting this week, and then to Joann fabrics for styrofoam balls. Then we made a stop at Goodwill. We ended up getting some blouses and shoes for Olivia. The shoes were brand new and they only had about 3 dozen only in her size!! How cool is that??

So we got her two pairs. I let her pick a pair in each pattern. Made me feel kind of "ritzy"!! LOL!

They were only 1.99. We found abby a pair but only in one color.

Sunday we went to church and then visited Dad for father's day. We brought him a couple cards. I would have liked to have brought something more but honestly what do you buy someone who has everything they want?

We then came home. Steve cooked on the grill and Jaimie and Travis came over. Jaimie had a gift for Steve. The little set showered him with their homemade gifts, and Jess and Em bought him and adjustable wrench. He already had one but it was a lovely thought.

Now here we are today. We started a study about ants. We prepared our ant farm and set out ritz crackers to catch them. We ended up with around 25 ants in our farm, and they are interesting. They are already tunnelling in the sand.

Something exciting today was my Bosch mixer came in the mail!!!!!wwwwoooooohoooooo!!

I will be studying the manual tonight after the children go to bed. Can't wait to start using it.

I am still working on a couple cape dresses for myself, and a Beatrix Potter styled skirt. If I had a couple hours to work without interuption they would be done, but that isn't likely to happen for a while.

I need to get going Steve will be home soon and I have to get supper started.

Until next time!

Gardening!

Well this week has been pretty quiet. We spent a day earlier in the week planting our flowers. How nice it makes our little shack look outside. Really brightens the place up!!!

Today we put all the vegetables in our raised bed. I was a little afraid we might run out of room. We didn't though, but we filled it right up!! Next year I plan to put in another one. Before we know it the whole backyard will be garden!!!

Jessica and Emily drove up to Fellowship Meetings in Withee WI. It's near Wausau. Yes, Jess took her new car. They left around 6:15 and arrived up there around 11 am. They didn't get lost because they took Steve's GPS. This was the first time they have driven that far alone. They are due to come back sometime Sunday.

This next week we have a few dentist appointments. Guess I figure everybody is feeling good (so far) and we might as well go get our teeth examined. Lily is in need of some work as she has some decay on one of her front teeth. She calls it her "shark tooth"! LOL!!!

Well we are going to watch the video CARS! So I need to get a good seat!LOL!!

Hives

Hello everyone!

I hope you all have been enjoying the summerlike temps.

Thurs. before Memorial day our Abigail had another ear infection. So of course she was prescribed amoxicillan. After taking it for 8 days and just recovering from the stomache flu she broke out in hives!! The poor dear was miserable. We were giving her benadryl for three days every 6 hours, and oatmeal baths. Well finally yesterday around 4:30 she started feeling better and her skin started to clear up!! whew!!! Was I ever glad to have her back to normal!

I am enclosing a few pictures of her hives.

Today Jessica's car broke down. The bolts fell out of the brake caliper! She had to have it towed home. Steve is working on it right now and should have it road ready later on tonight. If it doesn't rain. She is planning on going on a trip this weekend to Thorp WI. Im so glad it didn't happen then. Hopefully nothing else will go wrong with it. He also has to get our other car fixed yet as well. It needs a new wheel baring. It is still jacked up in the driveway. He is waiting for a part that needs to be machined.
Well there ya have it our life this week (so far) under the elm!
